Kindall Tyson, M.Ed., LPC-S, NCC, CCATP
Kindall, a native Texan, is a compassionate, empathetic Psychotherapist, Consultant, and Speaker impassioned by assisting clients lead more authentic and fulfilling lives. She has served clients in various settings from community mental health facilities, private practice, domestic and international school settings, and group homes. Kindall recently repatriated to the United States after 6 years of successfully living and working abroad in Beijing, China. She believes immersing yourself in other cultures helps you to better empathize with others and learn more about yourself, too.
Kindall specializes in working with anxiety-related disorders, mood disorders, perfectionism, trauma, and life adjustments, etc. Having spent considerable time working in schools and training and consulting with educational professionals, she is knowledgable about adolescent issues, social-emotional learning, parenting challenges, career challenges and transitions, and expatriate challenges with living abroad.
Kindall has also supported clients experiencing difficulties related to suicidal ideation/ suicide, self-harm, anxiety, parenting challenges, racial traumatic stress, professional anxiety, stress/ burnout, adolescent motivation & goal setting, college transitions/mental health & wellness, and adjustments with living abroad.
Kindall believes that each client and therapy session deserves a person-centered, specialized approach, and being a technically integrative clinician, the interventions and strategies used in session draw from varying approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma- Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Attachment-based therapy interventions.
Kindall also believes that clients possess all of the necessary tools to effect positive change in their lives and lead the therapeutic process. Additionally, she aims to help facilitate the process of illumination, self-discovery, and goal-setting with empathy and collaboration.
As previously stated, Kindall is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (Lic. 74518) approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Licensed Professional Counselors, a National Certified Counselor, Lic. 644859, and Professional School Counselor, certified EC-12 . She earned her Master of Education with a specialization in School Counseling from the CACREP- accredited counseling program at Sam Houston State University, where she graduated with honors ( Chi Sigma Iota-Beta Tau Chapter).
She is a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) and has also be certified in Mental Health First Aid.
Kindall understands the importance of community, connection, and continual learning; therefore, she holds membership with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA), the Texas Counselor Association (TCA), and the International School Counselor Association (ISCA).
Ms. Tyson has volunteered with The Houston Food Bank, The Boys and Girls Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, and The George R. Brown Convention center during Thanksgiving because she recognizes the importance of giving back and supporting others in need. Kindall firmly believes volunteering to support others is an important factor in maintaining holistic mental and physical health.
She recently created a podcast, The Black Expat Experience, offering expats a safe space to share the genesis of their journey's abroad, how they impact their communities, and how they prioritize their mental health. Building healthy community, even across countries an continents, is vital for optimal mental health.
Helping others was her passion before it ever became her career, and she is passionate about making a lasting impact in the lives of others and living a fulfilled life of integrity, growth, and resilience.
Kindall is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and helping others live their lives with power and purpose, and she also believes that when clients embark on the personal mission for self-awareness, self-love, and self-actualization, their challenges can become the catalysts for positive change.
Kindall aims to help clients navigate their journey with self-compassion and courage. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling, writing, designing, and spending time with her loved ones and friends.
